Meet our Japanese Kohiki Ceramic Mug, handcrafted in Japan. Located in Koka City, Shiga Prefecture, Shigaraki is one of Japan's six old kilns, with a history that goes back 1260 years. In 1976, Shigaraki-yaki (Shigaraki ware) was designated as a traditional craft in Japan.
Modeled after Korean Buncheong wares, Kohiki refers to an iron-rich clay body covered over with white slip and then a transluscent glaze. In Japan, the Kohiki style started with Korean potters and appealed greatly to the busho chajin or warrior-tea men of the late 1500s.
Dimension: 4.3" (11cm) x H 3" (7.5cm); holds 290 ml
Condition: brand new.
Glazed ceramic. Lead-free and food-safe.
Made in Japan.
