Meet our Japanese Kurotake (aka Kurochiku) Bamboo Chasen (matcha bamboo whisk) handcrafted by craftsmen in southern Kyoto, which is close to Takayama, and the quality of the tea whisks is the same as the ones made in Takayama.

Dimensions: L 4.25''

Sculpted from a single piece of black Kurotake bamboo, this tea whisk is ideal for both thin and thick matcha tea, creating silky, frothy foam.

It is made with all natural bamboo. No preservatives, anti-mold solutions or dyes are used.

Bamboo is sourced from the mountains of Kyoto, where it grows incredibly strong and sturdy.

Certain tea ceremony schools only use Kurotake whisks. Kurotake bamboo belongs to the Poaceae family, named after its black stem. It is a variant of the Hachiku bamboo (light bamboo). The Kurotake breed is green in spring, an in early fall, black spots appear, and it fully changes color in late fall.

*Please note that chasen comes firmly attached to the paper box on the bottom so carefully yet firmly detach it before use. After detaching, the paper from the box can still remain on the bottom of the chasen but it can be easily removed by quicky soaking in warm water.
