Meet our Japanese Nambu Tekki "Egg" Kyusu Tea Pot, Medium, crafted in Mizusawa, the birthplace of Nambu Tekki, in Ozu City, Iwate Prefecture, Japan by Hisao Iwashimizu. The kyusu is characterized by its lovely rounded form and thus, accordingly, got its name "Egg". Available in a smaller size here.

Hisao Iwashimizu is particular about "iron-ness," and uses the "raw mold" method to bring out the expression, texture, and color of the iron.

Nama-gata is a traditional mass-production technique in which sand is pressed into a mold and iron is poured into the mold. Although it is a mass-production method, this technique gives the iron an interesting expression, and it is also a technique that is free from superfluous decoration. The texture of the iron itself is enhanced by the absence of superfluous decoration.

The surface is finished with a technique called Yakihada Hakoshi (burnished surface polishing) is rich in flavor and brings out the character of iron.

The inside is enameled to retain heat.

Born in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture in 1964, Hisao Iwashimizu began working as a designer in 1989 before moving into the world of cast metal in 1992. He became independent in 2009 and launched [Space Casting]. He is based in Mizusawa-ku, Ozu City, Iwate Prefecture, where he creates iron works. He has held many solo exhibitions in various locations.
