Meet our Japanese Kuro Rakuyaki Ceramic Tea Bowls handmade in Kyoto, Japan. These black Raku tea bowls were made in keeping with the 400 years-old tradition in Kyoto. Kuro Rakuyaki means Black Raku-ware.

You may notice marks of Yattoko (ヤットコ; shears, tong) on the surface of the bowl. This occurs when craftsmen take the bowl out of a kiln using Yattoko. This method goes back to the time of Sen no Rikyu and Chojiro, and as such, it is regarded as Wabi-cha aesthetic.

On the bottom of the bowl, there is a signature hallmark of the kiln that crafted the bowls.

Handle with care. Before using the tea bowl, please soak it in warm water. Doing such will prevent the tea bowl from staining. After use, please ensure to wipe and dry the tea bowl before storing away.

Each bowl comes packaged in a beautiful box, thus perfect for gifting.
