Meet our Japanese Tokoname Ceramic Kyusu Tea Pot, Unglazed Iron Black, handcrafted by master Hirotaka Umehara in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture, where the best materials and techniques for kyusu are available. Tokoname red clay is a clay containing iron oxide suitable for pottery, and is characterized by a soft vermilion color when fired. Because no glaze is used, the clay itself absorbs the light and gives the pottery a moist texture. The red clay used contains a lot of iron, which is baked at a high temperature and carbonized to produce a unique black color. The tea pot has a built-in fine mesh tea strainer.

Below the handle is potter's mark. The teapot comes packaged in a beautiful paper box, thus perfect for gifting.

Tokoname pottery dates back to the 12th century and is recognised by its thin walls and subtle detailing. The ‘unglazed’ clay interior absorbs more flavour and imparts it into future brews for a great cup of tea.
