Meet our Shigaraki salt jar handmade in Shigaraki town, Koka city, Shiga prefecture which is located below Lake Biwa and close to Kyoto. Shiragaki town is one of the six ancient kilns in Japan dating back 1260 years and in 1976 was designated as one of Japan's Traditional Handcrafts by the Japanese government.
Made with Shigaraki's coarse clay, the jar can naturally absorb excess moisture from the salt and control the moisture level by 'breathing' in and out. The interior is not glazed so that it can absorb the moisture most effectively and as for the exterior, it has a shaved finish and is lightly glazed.
It is ideal for use in both kitchen and bathroom.
Please note that salt may harden when used in a humid place. Shake the jar occasionally to prevent the salt from hardening.
Please do not use it to store liquid or food with high moisture.
Please wash the jar with baking soda or in boiling water. When using soap, please note the scent transfer.
