Meet our shiratake (白竹) white bamboo chasen (matcha bamboo whisk) handcrafted in Takayama, Nara Prefecture, Japan by master craftsman, Yamato Takayama
Dimensions: L 4.25''
This style of chasen is called "Kazuho" and there are about 70 prongs in this chasen.
Originating in Takayama, Nara Prefecture, Japan, these chasen have over 500 years of history rooted in them. Their roots go back to the Muromachi Era (AD 1336 - 1573), and since then, the traditional techniques have been passed down, from father to son. Interestingly, the modern chasen design is based on the chasen design created by son, Yamato Takayama. Now, the Takayama area produces over 90% of the chasen in Japan and is known as the birthplace of chasen.
Sculpted from a single piece of white bamboo, this tea whisk is ideal for both thin and thick matcha tea, creating silky, frothy foam.
It is made with all natural bamboo. No preservatives, anti-mold solutions or dyes are used.
Bamboo is sourced from the mountains of Hyogo, Nara, and Kyoto, where it grows incredibly strong and sturdy.
*Please note that chasen comes firmly attached to the paper box on the bottom so carefully yet firmly detach it before use. After detaching, the paper from the box can still remain on the bottom of the chasen but it can be easily removed by quicky soaking in warm water.*
